March marks the end of Spring in Vietnam; after so many days of drizzle and mist, the sun finally shines in the bay. The blue sky, pleasant wind and ambient temperature are perfect for kayaking around the bay, swimming in warm water or just relaxing in sun desk.

The temperature in March is much higher than that of February, the average temperature is around 20°C. During the month, you may experience temperatures high of up to 23°C and low of 18°C, therefore, you should be able to enjoy beach time and discover the natural beauty of Halong Bay. While the weather is quite enjoyable, occasionally there are a few days that the sky gets cloudy and the cold weather seems to come back to the bay. This special weather phenomenon is called “Rét nàng Bân” in Vietnamese.

Depending on your preference and time, you can choose to stay overnight on board or day cruise, but the more time you spend on Halong Bay, the more you love this place. One activity that you cannot enjoy if you do day cruise is Tai chi section, which is organized early in the morning for most cruises in Halong Bay. Tai Chi is the ancient martial art which has been practiced for thousands years in China, it is said that practicing tai Chi can improve physical health, mental health through its controlled, soft movements.

While many rare animals live in Cat Ba National Park, if you are that lucky, you might get to see “Cat Ba languor” monkey, sea hawks, hornbills and cuckoos. The Cat Ba National Park is an interesting place that you should visit if natural conservation is your concern, the park covers both water and land, and those keen walkers could spot wild boar, giant oriental squirrels, civet cat and deer. The National Park provides tourists with fantastic chances for hiking and spotting rare “Cat Ba languor” monkey.

What to prepare when joining Halong Bay cruise in March

The weather is really nice and confortable, you should bring hat, sun cream and sunglasses with you for outdoor activities such as kayaking, swimming or visiting cave.  For this period of time, the chance of cancellation is relatively low, so you don’t need to worry about the abandonment of your trip, but you should check the weather forecast for occasional rain.  Remember to bring along light jacket for some cold days.

  • All prescription and over-the-counter medications and a first-aid kit, insect repellent in a sealable plastic storage bag.
  • For beach days, pack two swimsuits, one beach cover-up or large T-shirt, two rash guards, one baseball hat or wide-brimmed sun hat and flip-flops or waterproof sandals per traveler.
  • You might want to bring waterproof bag for your phone or camera.
  • Pack light windbreaker coat and sweater for the cold day.
